Hey there! It's been a while! Let's get y'all caught up on what the hack we've been up to the past few months!
Matt & a friend started a bike rental company called Iguana Bikes and placed them at the hotel he's working at as the Chief Engineer. Guests can rent them right at the hotel and use them for the mile or so ride to downtown. He added baskets & provide a lock for each bike so they can lock them up where ever they leave them. Bikes and scooters are THE best way to get around, so we're looking forward to spotting his shiny green conch cruisers around the island.
We got our own set of conch cruisers. Mines the sweet baby blue scooter and Matt's is the Jeep Cherokee. Pretty cool!
Matt has his job as the Chief Engineer at a hotel and I have my job as the manager of a wine bar, Wine-O, on Duval Street. I'm right in the heart of it all, doing (and drinking) what I love!
We've been doing a lot of exploring on our days off and absolutely love riding bikes & exploring the state park on Bahia Honda Keyy, about an hour north of Key West. We'll pack a picnic lunch and some beers and spend a few hours relaxing. It really does feel like we're back in the Bahamas.
We've been making lots of friends, and even started a court party at the new place where we all rolled out our BBQ's and hung out for the day. During the summer months, lots of part timers who have homes in our neighborhood head back home, so summer is like a ghost town around here. But, the bars & restaurants offer seasonal discounts to locals, so we've been eating out often and on the cheap!
Sunsets are still the highlight of the day and are best enjoyed when paired with a glass of crisp white wine.
Used the bathroom in the middle of the night the other night and looked up to see this guy checking us out... kinda creepy. We finally caught him and released him back into the wild. I have absolutely NO idea how he got in, but you're 100% sure I'll be checking everything out the next time I use the bathroom in the middle of the night!
Ft. Zachary Taylor state park in KW is absolutely our favorite place to spend time locally. The water is crystal clear, there's always a breeze and no sea weed like the other beaches because it's on the Atlantic side so water is always flowing (which helps keep the temps a bit cooler too). There's this little rock island we'll swim out to and snorkel around. And yes, we ride our bikes there :)
In general, we've been loving Island Life and are so fortunate to be able to do this!
